COVID-19 Testing Delays

In the beginning days of the COVID-19 pandemic reaching our area, COVID-19 swab tests were taking roughly 3-7 days to be resulted from the lab we use. Thankfully, Quest labs was able to improve this turnaround time to 2-3 days for most of May and the first half of June, processing as many as 100,000 swab tests each day.

However, as testing availability has increased around the nation throughout June & July, Quest labs has been thus far unable to keep up with the demand even with a rapid scaling up of capacity. This means that it is now taking 7-14 days to get COVID-19 test results. (Quest)

Please know that this is as frustrating for you as it is for us! With that being said, whether or not you are tested and get official results, if you have been exposed in close contact to a person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the CDC recommends you stay home and monitor your health for 14 days. Please follow their guidelines below to determine if your interaction qualifies as “close contact.”

What counts as close contact?

You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes

You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19

You had direct physical contact with the person (touched, hugged, or kissed them)

You shared eating or drinking utensils

They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you
